The Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO), the Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) work to ensure commercial motor vehicles (CMV) are traveling safely in Ohio. Enforcement agents and inspectors conduct safety inspections on CMVs. Each safety inspection follows a thorough process to make sure the driver and CMV meet state and federal regulations. Vehicles and drivers that fail to meet these regulations or that are considered an imminent hazard may be placed out-of-service and prohibited from operating until they are in compliance with the regulations.
