Military License Plates
Ohio offers military license plates to honor the sacrifice and accomplishment of those who serve in the military.
- There are no additional fees for these license plates.
- Registrant eligibility requires documentation depending on plate selection.
- If you are a veteran with a 100% service-connected disability or are receiving a monetary allowance from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) for the purchase of a motor vehicle, you may be eligible to receive up to two (2) free military license plates. A $1.00 fee is applicable for transfer transactions. Visit Veterans with Disabilities or Accessible Plates for more information.

Documents Needed
- Select a plate name below to view required documentation that is specific to the desired plate.
- E-check required for most (or many) vehicles 6 to 25 years old and owned by residents of the following counties must be tested every two years:
- Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, and Summit

Process
- Eligible applicants currently outside of the state of Ohio and registering a new vehicle.
- Refer to the military Vehicle Registration instructions.
- Eligible applicants currently located in Ohio:
- Visit the nearest BMV deputy registrar license agency with the required documents to complete the transaction.
- Allow 7-10 business days to receive the requested license plates
- Online at OPLATES.com
- Limited transactions: renewal, replacement, and/or exchange of current military license plate.
- Allow 10-15 business days to receive your vehicle registration and/or new license plate(s), shipped separately, in the mail.
- Any license plates which are free, has reduced fees, or requires documentation for renewal cannot be completed online
- By mail, send to the address listed on the renewal notice.
- Allow 3-4 weeks for processing to receive your vehicle registration and/or new license plate(s), shipped separately, in the mail.
- Congressional Medal of Honor and Former Prisoner of War applicants MUST submit their application and other necessary documents by mail to Registration Support Services at the address listed on the application.
