Armed Forces Designation
Any veteran, active-duty, or reserve member of the United States armed forces may have an ‘Armed Forces’ emblem displayed on their Ohio driver license or ID card. There is no fee to add the emblem on its own, however, the normal fees for a first issuance, renewal, or duplicate credential apply in order to receive the physical license or ID with the designation on it.
- The applicant will be asked at the time of application, whether in-person, online, or by mail, if they are a member of the armed forces AND would like the military designation on the license/ID. A “Yes” response, with supporting documentation being provided, will result in the emblem being displayed to the credential.
- Once the emblem is added to the driver license or ID card, it will remain on all future credentials unless the applicant requests for it to be removed. During each driver license or ID card transaction, the license or ID holder will be asked if there has been any change in status or in their choice to have the designation on the card.
- Documents to prove eligibility and maintain the emblem on the card do not need to be presented again unless it was previously displayed at one time and was then later removed by request.
